In all climes, research activities are the most potent and veritable tools for socioeconomic development. As such research is key for all forms of sustainable development in the society. The federal institute of industrial research Oshodi, FIIRO as a an institution committed to the industrialisation of Nigerian, has over the years played a key and strategic role in this aspect.
However, the Acting Director General FIIRO, Dr. Yemisi Asagbra reiterated this during a courtesy visit of a team from the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, led by Professor Ayo Ogunye. She expertly described the activities, the successes and breakthroughs of FIIRO in the area of research and development since inception.
Professor Ogunye who was coincidentally a lecturer to the Honourable Minister for Science Technology and Innovation, FIIRO's supervisory ministry, in his brief remark, made glowing commendations on FIIRO's activities saying that research is key to national development. The erudite scholar was quick to add that though FIIRO has done excellently well, there is the need to showcase the remarkable works of scientists and engineers carried out in the institute to the world.
Lamenting the Nigerian situation that hardly encourages research works, Ogunye however stressed that FIIRO must intensify its efforts in the industrialisation drive which is paramount in Nation building.
